Breakfast

I have the same breakfast each morning. Sure, it gets monotonous, but, it’s a simple breakfast that minimizes cleanup and allows me to break down camp as I eat.

“Wild-Camp Drammach”

Drammach is an old Scots meal that was simply oats mixed with cold water. As you’ll see, this breakfast is not much more interesting. I throw in a packet of instant coffee for my caffeine boost – multi-tasking!

  • I run the oats, raisins, and bananas through a food processor so they are more mixable and the oats are more readily hydrated.
  • Everything is poured into a ziploc sandwich bag for a ready-mixed single-serving breakfast.
  • I mix this with approximately 500 ml of water (hot water is better, but I usually skip the stove and dump it all into a wide-mouth water bottle).
  • Soy protein can be tough on your gut if you’re not used to it, you can substitute with whey protein. If you want to try it then mix it 50/50 with whey protein until your body adjusts.

Wild Camp Drammach #2”

I’ve recently tried a change to the recipe – I substituted shredded coconut for the freeze-dried bananas. A few more calories for slightly less weight.
